Talk:ApplicationStats
From Facebook Developer Wiki
What kind of application stats would be useful for you and why?
-- Information on the distribution of various page load times in seconds. It would be valuable to know what % of page loads are "slow" and which pages so we can make things faster.
-- Information about how users who add your app came to your about page (referral source).
-- How about number of invites sent? With the new invite page, I dont think this is accessible.
-- How many users have the app's profile box set to visible. So that we can know if our box is too ugly to most of our users' taste...
-- Breakdown of the various touch points that are used in the engagement calculation
-- New vs. returning
-- Geography/demographic data
-- Average Request Time
-- Request timeouts
-- Please can we have historical data for adds, removes, number of users, and number of active users, preferably in a graph but tabulated would be OK. Data points should be ideally one per minute, one per hour would be OK. A day is really way too long! one per minute... Seriously? Nobody provides minute-level stats. Google AdWords, Amazon ECS -- they all aggregate to the day.
-- It would be nice to see active users aggregated for longer time periods like monthly. There's a huge difference between an app that gets the same 1000 users a day and one that gets a different 1000 every day.
-- Breakdown of pageviews for all canvas pages. Would like to know which pages are popular.
-- full reporting by date and date range
-- API access to all of this data for apps you develop
-- limited API access to to topical data for ALL apps by app id (e.g. looking up a 3rd party app's total installed base, visitors on a given day, canvas page views on a given day, favicon_url, graphic_url, etc.)
-- For each day, the location of the app in the app directory to see how that placement impacts app installs. I think we all spend too much time each day checking where our apps are in the app directory. Maybe by page number and/or position ("file sharing": 1st page; 5th of 80 total)
-- For the number of removes have this broken down into removed pretty much as soon as they installed it vs older users removing it because they were tired of it or doing some "app housekeeping"
-- A list of the pages called that returned HTTP status codes other than 200 (so we can attempt to figure out what is going wrong with those pages).
[edit] Possible Bugs?
---Can we please have the ability to "turn off", or at least "hide from public" the usage statistics?
---I have noticed the "page did not respond" is more frequent since this morning(9/26/07). could the new stats be causing this?????
-- Iframe based applications do not have HTTP stats.
-- Desktop applications do not have HTTP stats.
-- How is the number of active users for desktop stats is calculated ? Is it each login ? Now after the "remember me" checkbox introduction users do not have to login at all on desktop applications.
-- The facebook unique active number is about half of my own internal tracking. Do active users include non-installed (only logged in) users?
-- The newly installed number seems to be about 40-50% under my internal numbers. Do these include everyone who has the app installed regardless of permissions? or only say people who choose to display the app on their profile?
-- Can you add back the number of Reviews on the Developers page ? I like that you have this new "more stats" link, but I liked seeing the number of Reviews on each. If you could also show when *new* ones have been posted that would be cool too.
-- It would be nice to have the time in the user's local time zone.
[edit] Question about adds/users
Are "adds" just users who have added the application, or does that stat also include users who have used the application without adding it?
Can we enable users to optionally write a reason on why they removed an application. This could be the single most useful data to a developer creating a new application. This data could then be provided to the developer. Quick radio button on the reason for removal would make it easy for the remove and give some helpful info to the developer beyond nothing or a paragraph of text.
[edit] When does it update?
Now it is 6:30 pm on Thursday and for the most part all one sees are Tuesday stats but every once in a while a glimpse emerges of Wednesday. Seems very strange.
-- I second that, it appears that the stats info has not updated in close to 48 hours now. How about just displaying it realtime?
-- I third that!
-- +1
-- I fourth that, if there is a fourth no update since 8 hours know
