Why can this only be used on the canvas page? What was the reason for this change?

Profile boxes are only visible on profiles of folks who have installed (added) the app, so neither if-is-app-user nor if-user-has-added-app make sense there. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

On the profile you have the profile owner and the profile viewer, so this would-be/was useful and handy on the profile page. However, Facebook has disallowed its use because it was being abused and showing visitors something drastically different than what the profile owner was seeing.
