How to Handle Summary and URL Arrays?

What is the deal with the complicated array structures that are returned for the 'summary' and 'url' fields? How can we programatically interpret these arrays? Obviously in looking at the data, some of the elements are titles and URL's to the content and a URL to the 'link' record itself, but there are no array tags to let us grab what we want.
